Mango Butter for the Hair and Skin
I sincerely believe products one uses on their skin should be capable of being applied to your hair. Your hair and skin are one in the same. They both need moisture, protection and vitamins. Both your hair and skin can suffer from the same things: being dry, rough, itchy and lack of cell growth. So why not use one product, a natural one, that can resolve all of your concerns?
Mango Butter is not as common as Shea and Cocoa but has been traditionally used in the rain forests and tropics for its skin and hair softening, soothing, moisturizing and protective properties. Its also used to restore flexibility and reduce degeneration of skin cells. This is a tropical butter that smells sweet and nutty in its pure form. It generally has a warm creamy color and is solid at room temperature. This butter also melts at body temperature or upon contact with skin and disperses smoothly, providing a protective, emollient layer.
Like Shea Butter the shelf life for Mango Butter is two (2) years as well. This butter is usually used to:
- Effectively treats dry skin
- Heals skin rash
- Heals skin peeling, after tanning
- Clears blemishes and wrinkles
- Relieves itching skin
- Heals sunburn
- Shaving cream for a smooth shave
- Treats small skin wounds and skin cracks
- Moisturizes and smoothes tough or rough skin
- Fights frost bite
- Prevents stretch marks during pregnancy
- Relieves insect bites
- Promotes healthy rejuvenated skin
- Heals muscle fatigue, aches and tension
- Relieves skin allergies such as poison ivy or poison oak
- Treats eczema and dermatitis
- Fights off fine lines and wrinkle
Personal Uses:
I use Mango Butter as a deep treatment as well as a pomade. After Ive shampooed and lightly conditioned my hair I apply the butter to my hair and scalp. Since it melts quickly, I massage it into my scalp for 3-5mins. After that I place a plastic cap over my head and sit under the dryer for about 15mins. Afterwards I rinse my hair slightly then dry it either by blow drying or wrapping my hair and sitting under the hooded dryer. Once dried completely my hair feels smooth, silky and shiny.
As a pomade I usually add in some essential oils and vitamins (vitamin E, Jojoba Oil to name a couple) and apply to my scalp. If Im going to flat iron my hair I use a small amount on the hair which act as a heat protector.
Dermatologists often recommend Mango Butter for treatment of wrinkles, as most people who use it will notice decreased signs of aging and the disappearance of lines and wrinkles. Cosmetologists often recommend Mango Butter for those who have dry hair and scalp. The use of this relieves itchy and dry scalp without weighing hair down or making it look and feel greasy.
